In Loving Memory of Doria Ragan
Doria Aldea Ragan was born on May 7, 1924 in Edmonton, Alberta. Her father, Napolean Mailhot, was from Montreal and her mother, Amanda, was from Alberta. Doria was the fourth child of eight. She was able to complete grade nine education. Doria married Elmer Ragan on November 24, 1943. They moved to BC in 1948 and after the children were grown did commercial fishing together. Even though Doria at first was afraid of the water and would not wade in past her knees, once she was on the boat she loved her time out on the ocean fishing for salmon. If the waters around the Queen Charlotte Islands were too rough they would anchor in a cove and pull crabs to can and bring home. Doria had five children: Bobbie, Beatrice, Dan, Irene and Phil, 11 grandchilddren, 16 great-grandchildren as well as 2 step-great-great-grandchildren. Elmer passed away on July 6, 1992. Family meant everything to Dora. They described her as a loving, gentle lady with a great sense of humour. Doria was quite social, and enjoyed gardening and cooking. She also created works of art in liquid embroidery and knitting. Doria was raised in the Catholic Church. She knew of God’s loving forgiveness through Jesus Christ and would often attend the monthly mass here at Buchanan as well as chapel services and spiritual reflections. She passed away on May 11, 2015. Her quiet presence is greatly missed by all. We pray
God’s peace upon her family in these days.
